Bio

I am a photographer and writer whose work is rooted in a lifelong sense of wonder about the world—its light, its landscapes, and its oceans. My photographic journey began in commercial and portrait work, but soon shifted toward a more personal, contemplative practice grounded in place, memory, and the fleeting nature of experience.

Influenced early on by scouting adventures along the River Shannon and Ireland’s Atlantic coast, I discovered how photography could offer more than a record—it could distill a moment into something emotionally enduring. This became the foundation for a body of work that seeks to pause time, evoke presence, and invite reflection.

My photobooks—Cool Waters / Emerald Seas (2006), Shortcut (2019), Last Orders (2021), and Kinsale: Light and Time (2023)—combine visual storytelling with personal narrative, often shaped by an awareness of the fragility of life and the beauty of passing light. I hold a Certificate in Professional Photography (2001), completed the Open College of the Arts postgraduate course Re-approaching Photography, and am a recipient of the Arts Council Agility Award. I’m also an alumnus of the Tyrone Guthrie Centre.

Whether underwater or on land, I seek to create images—and books—that help others step briefly outside themselves, and into a space of wonder.
